About 170 bikers participated. CARe Rotary Car Show Feb 5, 2011 This is the first year that Rotary has been a partner with Capistrano Animal Rescue Effort (CARE) in putting on a car show at the SJC Community Center. Over 500 cars were in the show. Thanksgiving for the Needy Nov 20, 2010 On 20 December Rotary collected Thanksgiving food for families in San Juan Capistrano and for local Unite States Marines. The food was collected at Von's, Ralph's and Marbella Market in San Juan Capistrano and the Pavillion in Rancho Santa Margarita. This was conducted on the ridges beginning at the end of Camino Las Ramblas. Relay for Life 10 Jul 10, 2010 Rotary Participated in the Annual Relay for Life to support cancer research at the SJC Community Center Sports Fields on July 10. Demotion of President John Caldwell Jun 30, 2010 Rotary President John Caldwell was demoted at Sarducci's on Wednesday, June 30 after a great year with him at the helm. Chuck Roberts Jun 26, 2010 Dr. Chuck Roberts was a Rotarian for 35 years, 27 with our club. He was a past President of our club and a member of the Paul Harris Foundation with 3 sapphires. He had perfect attendance. Rotary Golf Tournament Jun 25, 2010 The First Annual San Juan Capistrano Rotary Golf Tournment was held at San Juan Hills Golf Club on Friday afternoon June 25. Building a house in Tecate, Mexico Jun 5, 2010 Members of our Rotary, including friends and relatives, along with Students without Borders and Engineers without Borders built a house in Tecate, Mexico on Saturday, June 5. The build was guided and greatly aided by Corazon. This was our fourth house build in 4 years. Shig Kinoshita Wall of Recognition Jun 4, 2010 On June 4th Rotarian Shig Kinoshita was added to the City of San Juan Capistrano Wall of Recognition. At the most only three people are added per year. Shig was nominated by our club. Two other people were also selected. Rotary Meeting June 2 Jun 2, 2010 On the Rotary Meeting on June 2 we had a presentation of the La Novia Meadows proposal development and two guests from Belgium. May Rotary Meetings May 19, 2010 There were two great meetings in May. Mike Darnold came to the club with RYLA alumni and James Littlejohn visited the club with the Boys and Girls Club of Capistrano Valley Youth of the Year. Rotary Supports Boys and Girls Club May 8, 2010 The Capistrano Boys and Girls Club held their annual Gala fundraiser on Saturday, May 8 at the Boys and Girls Club. The theme was a circus. Many of our Rotarians attended in support of this event. Rotarians attend theater opening May 5, 2010 The movie theater opened in San Juan Capistrano this week. A preview was held on May 5 which many Rotarians attended. Rotary District Conference Apr 30, 2010 The annual Rotary District 5320 Conference was held at Knott's Berry Farm on April 30-May 1. We had a great booth and good club participation for the Hospitality Night on April 30. April Meetings Apr 22, 2010 Many programs were held in April at Sarducci's and we supported the barbecue for the city's adopted Marines the 1st Battalion, 11th Marines in the Historic Downtown Park on April 17th. Community Alliance Network Apr 7, 2010 Health Educators from the Community Alliance Network /Natioanl Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD-OC) spoke to our club about not smoking with emphasis on the teenage years. EGGstravaganza 10 Apr 3, 2010 Rotary had an Easter Egg Hunt, decorating, bounce house and various crafts for about 650 youngsters in Historical Town Center Park. It was organized by Ray Perez and Steve Cohon. Rotary Progam Speaker Jim Riddet Mar 31, 2010 Attorney Jim Riddet who was part of the defense team for Broadcom Co-founder Henry Nicholas spoke about the case. LA Marathon Mar 21, 2010 Each year the Rotary partially sponsors children from Marco Forster Middle School to run in the LA Marathon. We generally pay for them to stay in a hotel in LA the night before. One of their trainers is Principal (and Rotarian) Carrie Bertini who runs in the marathon along with Rotarian Ray Perez. Swallows Day Parade Mar 20, 2010 The parade was bigger than ever with many Rotarians participating in the parade (and some of us just enjoying it). Rotary Meeting on Saint Patrick's Day Mar 17, 2010 We celebrated Saint Patrick's Day with the wearing of the green, a visit by the Dr. R. Mahler (Superintendent of CUSD) and a visit by Rotary 5320 District Governor Bret Gerdes and his wife Natalie. Melodrama at the Camino Real Playhouse Mar 10, 2010 The Rotary bought out the house to enjoy a buffet dinner from Sarducci's Capistrano Depot and view the Camino Real Playhouse production of "San Juan's Dirty Laundry" or "Will Her Knickers Ever Be Clean? Special guests including 4 Councilmen were present. Health Clinic Feb 20, 2010 On Saturday, February 20 we sponsored a Health Clinic for Elementary School Students at San Juan Elementary School. About 85 children were seen. The clinic included dental work, hearing and eyesight. Taste of San Juan Feb 17, 2010 The San Juan Capistrano Rotary participated in the Fiesta Associations Taste of San Juan at El Adobe Restaurant on February 17. Most of the major local restaurants were there serving portion for our enjoyment. Dana Point Boat Parade Dec 19, 2009 A local boat owner, Charles (in the cowboy hat), volunteered to take some Marines and wives (20) out on his boat for the Dana Point boat parade. He was so impressed with the Rotary food drive effort he wanted to do something for the Marines (111). So Ray P. set it up the event with his contact with the Marines. Rotary provide some food trays and drinks. Joe Soto and Steve Rose did the meet and greet. Upon return they were so thankful and this effort really made their Xmas special. Decorating Rotary Rose Parade Float Dec 19, 2009 Members of the San Juan Capistrano Rotary, spouses, friends, San Juan Hills High School Interact, Marco Forster students and various parents worked on decorating the Rotary Rose Parade Float in Pasadena. It will be the second float in the parade this year. Santa's Visit at Marco Forster Middle School Dec 12, 2009 On December 12 the Rotary held their annual Santa's Visit at Marco Forster Middle School. We were strongly supported by the students of Marco Forster Middle School, Capo Valley High School, Dana Hills High School, San Juan Hills High School and JSerra High School. Food was also distributed courtesy of the Food Bank. Rotary Holiday Party 09 Dec 10, 2009 On December 9 the Rotary had their annual Holiday Party at Ciao Pasta Trattoria. December 2 Rotary Meeting Dec 2, 2009 On December 2 we inducted 2 new members, the Assistant Governor visited the club and the featured speaker was comedian Joe Ditzel. Thanksgiving for the Needy November 2009 Nov 22, 2009 On November 21 the Rotary Club had people from the Rotary club, San Juan Hills HS, Marco Forster PAL, and JSerra students collecting food for about 50 needy local families and Marine families outside three grocery stores. Ridge Event Oct 3, 2009 Rotary in conjunction with the City of San Juan Capistrano sponsored the 2nd Annual Ridge Walk and First Annual Ridge Run on the trails in the SE portion of the City's Open Space. Creek Cleanup Sep 26, 2009 Rotarians fed lunch to the many people who contributed to the clean up of San Juan Creek and Trabucco Creek. Angels Ball Game for Polio Aug 29, 2009 Our Rotary District 5320 arranged for the Rotary clubs to attend an Angel baseball game as a way to raise money for combating polio.
